Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim who possesses enough provision for himself and for those he is responsible to support on the day and night of Eid, beyond his essential needs. He must give it on behalf of his wife and his young children who have no wealth of their own. He is not, however, obliged to give Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of those children whose support is not his responsibility, nor for his servants, nor for anyone whose upkeep he has taken on voluntarily or whom he sponsors, whether an orphan, a student of knowledge, a person in need, or otherwise. At Istiqama Global, we deliver your zakat to the most needy communities in East Africa.
